Pelješac Maritime Company (Associazione Marittima di Sabioncello), a sailing shipping joint stock company, based in Orebić; operated 1865–1891.
The goal of the Company was the procurement of ships and the transport of goods by long-distance ships. It operated as a joint stock company, primarily thanks to the capital of Pelješac investors, but also a significant share of capital from other parts of Croatia (central Dalmatia, Dubrovnik area, Boka Kotorska) and from distant maritime places and centers (Constantinople, Trieste, Cardiff, Livorno, Marseille and Mariupol). .
Shortly after its founding, the Society owned two sailing ships: the Adam Adam and the Eva Clipper. The fleet grew over time, and in 1869 the Society owned 19 ships. The aim was to increase the carrying capacity of ships and the international classification. During their 26 years of existence, they have built or purchased a total of 33 long sailing sailboats.
The ships transported grain and coal (on the route Odessa-England), sugar (Batavia-New York), salt (from Sicily and from England to the USA), cotton (to New York), wood (from the Gulf of Mexico port). They sailed for North (New York, Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia) and South (Brazil) America, India, Indonesia (Java, Sumatra) and Russia. The captains of the ships were members of old Pelješac maritime families (Kristo Fisković, Kristo Jerković and Anton Bjelovučić).
1891 the Pelješac Maritime Society ceases to exist, and with it the golden age of the Pelješac Maritime Society.
